Dean E. Schott II, a former high school basketball coach and teaching assistant at Lyons Central School District in New York, was arrested on August 5, 2025, following allegations of sexual abuse involving a former student.

The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred in April 2019.

Schott, who had been employed by the district for over 20 years, resigned in April 2025 after the district received a report of the alleged misconduct.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation, leading to Schott’s arrest and subsequent arraignment on charges of third-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree sexual abuse.

He was arraigned on August 6, 2025, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Because the charges are not bail-eligible under New York State law, he was released on his recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on October 8, 2025.

Dean Schott’s Arrest Had a Serious Impact on His Career, Damaging His Reputation and Setting Back Years of Hard Work!

Dean Schott’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the Lyons community, where he was a well-known figure due to his long tenure in the school district.

The charges against him include third-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree sexual abuse, both stemming from an alleged incident in April 2019.

Following the allegations, Schott was escorted off school grounds and resigned immediately.

The district has stated that there is no evidence to suggest any current students were involved.

However, authorities believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The case has raised concerns about the safety and trust within educational institutions.

Schott’s arrest has undoubtedly tarnished his reputation and ended his career in education and coaching at Lyons Central School District.

Over his tenure, Schott helped transform the program into a competitive force in New York State.

One of his most notable achievements was leading the Lyons team to the New York State Final Four in 2024, marking the first time in nearly a decade that the program reached the state semifinals.

His coaching ability and commitment to the team earned him respect in the community, and he was instrumental in developing young athletes, both on and off the court.

Prior to his coaching career, Schott also worked as a teaching assistant at Lyons Central School District for over 20 years.

The arrest not only severed his ties with the school district but also cast a shadow over his accomplishments.

Schott’s future in both education and coaching remains uncertain as the legal proceedings unfold, leaving his once-promising career in ruins.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and encourages anyone with information about past incidents involving Schott to contact them at (315) 946-5800.
