Pine Bluff police were called back to Central Park after a group of juveniles returned to the area and started fighting again, according to a community alert issued by The Heat Magazine.
The incident marks the second response to the same location, raising concerns among residents and community members about youth safety and behavior in public spaces.
Parents Asked to Step In
Authorities and community advocates are urging parents to take action. If your children are out running in groups or hanging around Central Park, now is the time to check on them and bring them home.
The message from local observers is clear — this is not just a police problem, it is a community problem that requires everyone to play a role.
Resident Akeevehs Collier shared her frustration online, pointing out that short school suspensions are clearly not enough.
“We have to do more than just tapping hands and repeated 5 day suspensions at school. Cause when they bring it to the streets too much is being risked,” she wrote, calling for 12-month anger management programs, counseling, church partnerships, career-guided community service, and mentor placement for repeat offenders.
Carla Harrell took a harder stance, saying parents need to be held directly accountable. “Start holding parents responsible. Arrest parents when they don’t control their kids,” she commented.
Pearlene Davis raised a deeper question that many in the community are thinking about.
“There is so much talk on the kids need parenting. I have a question, who are parenting the parents?” she asked.
A Park With a Proud Past Now Struggling
Long-time residents remember Central Park as a place full of life and activity. Teresa Bunting, who lives practically across the street from the park, recalled its better days.
“Back in the 60s til mid 70s, NBS Chargers the pony tail softball team practiced everyday at Central Park. It was even safe at night to play there,” she said, adding how sad it is to see what it has become today.
Tommy Spurlock echoed that sentiment, remembering tennis matches, football games, and kids flying kites at the park. “That whole area has become a ghetto,” he said bluntly.
TaMar Bethune suggested the city install surveillance cameras to help monitor and track activity at the park, especially during incidents involving weapons.
JustLiving Mylife pointed to another layer of the problem, noting that many grandparents are left raising children alone while parents are absent.
“Some are just too old or too tired. What we need is neighborhood watch and help. It takes a complete community to help these grandparents,” she wrote.
Blivian Izard summed up what many are feeling heading into the warmer months with a simple comment: “And the Summer begins!!”
