A Life Dedicated to Football, Work and Faith
Gregory graduated from Wooddale High School in 1979. Football became one of his greatest passions, especially because it gave him an opportunity to encourage and mentor young people.
He coached youth football in Parkway Village through SEMAA before later coaching the seventh grade football team at Briarcrest Christian School. Those who played for him knew him not simply as a coach, but as someone who encouraged, taught, and supported young athletes.
Professionally, Gregory began his career with Baddour before spending more than 30 years working for Kroger. During that time, he developed lasting friendships with coworkers and took pride in his work.
Friends and family also remembered his ability to speak at gatherings and special occasions. He had a natural way of making people feel appreciated, whether he was telling a story, offering encouragement, or honoring someone.
Gregory attended Hope Presbyterian Church and was described as a man whose Christian faith guided his life and relationships.
He was known by many names, including Allen, Dad, Big Al, Coach Gregory, Mr. Gregory, and Pop. Each reflected a different part of the life he shared with others.
Visitation is scheduled for October 6 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis. Additional visitation and the funeral service will take place October 7, followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gregory’s legacy will live on through his family, the young people he coached, his longtime coworkers, and the many friends whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, dedicated coach, loyal friend, and man of faith.
