Seth Babikian Was A Beloved Connecticut Basketball Coach And A Mentor!

Coach Seth Babikian was a pillar of Connecticut’s basketball community.

He dedicated over 40 years to the sport as an AAU coach, high school coach, town travel coach, referee, and tournament director.

Additionally, he served as Director of Basketball for Connecticut Elite. During that time, he led the 13U team to an undefeated championship season.

Also, he mentored countless athletes and coaches with his trademark blend of tough love and deep compassion.

Although specific details about his education remain private, he was affiliated with Mercy University and worked closely with schools such as Immaculate High.

Moreover, Coach Seth was widely admired for his championship wins, such as the FCBL 6th Grade Final and the 2018 Newstimes Tournament.

Based in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Seth was known for his genuine care, always asking about family and offering support beyond the court.

Respected for his raspy Brooklyn voice, old-school grit, and positivity, Seth shaped lives far beyond basketball.

He will be remembered as a mentor, friend, and force for good.

Coach Seth Babikian’s passing has deeply affected the basketball community in Connecticut and beyond.

Former players, fellow coaches, and friends have described him as a mentor, a father figure, and a tireless advocate for youth development.

The Connecticut Elite Basketball Program shared a heartfelt message, writing:

This week, we experienced a profound loss. Our longtime friend, coach, and mentor, Seth Babikian, passed away.

Coach Seth was so much more than a coach. Over the years, he wore many hats within our Elite community—coach, program director, tournament director—but the role he lived most fully was that of a genuine friend…I know this is something he would be proud of. He even joked with me a few times, saying, “Make sure you name a tourney after me when I go!” So, this one’s for you, Coachie.

Rest in peace, Coach Seth.

You made a difference. You’ll never be forgotten.

With love and respect

Likewise, one of Coach Seth’s former players and a younger coach shared a deep message, saying:

I can’t tell you how I feel you were so tuff on me always told me be humble. I really always heard and tried everything you said. You spent so much time trying to make me better. That season I couldn’t work as much and you made sure you got me family airport runs and trainings. I loved to talk politics with you and cultural issues. You were so happy when I got my own program you told me EVERYTHING I had to change lol. I’m gonna really miss seeing you just left tournament everyone is so sad. Seth Babikian S.I.P Thanks for everything I was listening

To honor his legacy, a scholarship fund has been created to support players from low-income families.

Coach Seth made a real difference, and he’ll be missed by everyone who knew him.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Coach Seth Babikian’s family, friends, and well-wishers.

Rest In Peace, Legend!
