While the school did not clearly state the reason for his dismissal, football coach Phil Phillips was fired after the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Phil Phillips is the former head football coach at Oneonta High School in Alabama.

He is known for leading the team from 2018 to 2025 with a strong record of 62 wins and 32 losses.

Recently, he was dismissed from his role as coach.

Phil Phillips Served As The Head Football Coach From 2018-2025!

Phil Phillips has been involved in coaching for at least 13 years at Oneonta High School.

This includes 8 years as head football coach from 2018 to 2025, as well as earlier years as an assistant coach.

During his tenure, he led the team to a strong 62–32 record and multiple playoff appearances.

Before 2018, he served as Oneonta’s offensive coordinator during their 2013 state title run.

He was also named the 2012 4A Assistant Coach of the Year by the Alabama Football Coaches Association.

Moreover, he also coached baseball at Oneonta, leading the team to the semifinals in 2012.

Despite dedicating over 13 years to coaching, Phillips was dismissed from his head coaching role in late 2025.

Although the exact details of the dismissal have not been publicly confirmed, it occurred following the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The decision surprised many in the community, with some expressing disappointment given his winning record and leadership.

Phil Phillips reportedly confirmed his dismissal, saying:

I guess you would just say there was a vast difference in personality and philosophy with the central office.

He explained that he was called in by the principal on a Monday and told he was being fired.

Reflecting on his time, he added:

We had a good run. Last year was a little down (2-8). We played so many ninth graders and didn’t have many seniors. This year, we were still young. Against Locust Fork, I had five players run for 362 yards and none of them had a driver’s license.

About the team’s performance, he noted:

The only game we really were out of was the Anniston game (a 43-6 loss), and that may be the only game I’ve ever been a part of where we didn’t have anyone who could have started for the other team.

Speculation suggests internal disagreements or performance expectations may have played a role, though no official reason has been released.

In the coming days, the school might choose to clarify or release an official statement explaining the reason behind Coach Phil Phillips’ dismissal.
