Yesterday morning, friends, teammates, and community members announced the heartbreaking news of Emma Barnett’s death.

Known as a vibrant athlete, coach, and friend, Emma lost her life in a tragic car accident near Harlan, Indiana, early Saturday morning.

According to authorities, the crash happened at 5:37 a.m. on IN-37, one mile west of Harlan.

Emma’s car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a flatbed truck.

Emergency responders declared Emma dead at the scene. The driver of the truck remained uninjured.

Indiana TrafficWise confirmed that the road had been temporarily closed but has since reopened to traffic.

Emma Barnett was far more than an athlete—she was a mentor, leader, and friend who touched countless lives.

Ashlee Robbins shared that Emma was “the heartbeat of our gym and the soul of our community,” describing how Emma was often the first one in and the last one out, setting up equipment and giving her all every single day.

Her contagious laugh and radiant smile left an impression on everyone she met, especially Weslee and Remi, who adored her.

Dawn Leon Potter reflected on Emma’s passion and warmth, saying,

“You brought happiness when there was struggle, and built relationships while you coached. The way you interacted with the girls was amazing—they loved you.”
