An 18-year-old student-athlete and member of Broken Bow High School’s Class of 2025, Korey Nnokam, was killed in a crash in rural McCurtain County, Oklahoma, over the weekend on May 10, 2025.

The exact details of Korey Nnokam’s surviving family are unclear, but he is certain to be survived by his parents, his sister Lauren Nnokam, his aunt Alecia Huskins, and other relatives.

His sister, Lauren, updated her profile picture to one featuring Nnokam, a silent ode to grieving his loss.

Alecia Huskins, Nnokam’s aunt, poured her raw emotions into a Facebook post, writing:

Words can’t even express how broken I am right now. I wanted you to know how I tried to be your biggest supporter and to know no matter what you could call me for anything and I’d be there. I feel in my heart you knew I always had you.
You were more than just a nephew to me you was my son. Korey Nnokam all I ever wanted was to see you succeed in life and you was doing just that I was so proud of you…. Life isn’t fair. I love you and will miss you everyday that passes.

Reportedly, Korey Nnokam was one of two passengers in a car that crashed early Saturday morning on Cow Crossing Road, far east of Idabel.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly after 2:05 a.m. when a Ford pickup truck, driven by an 18-year-old, was traveling north on Cow Crossing Road.

The fast-moving vehicle went off the road and flipped over several times. None of the three occupants: Korey Nnokam, the 18-year-old driver, and a 19-year-old passenger were wearing seat belts, and all were ejected from the truck during the crash.

Nnokam was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and the other passenger were transported to a local hospital. At the moment, the conditions of the surviving teens have not been disclosed.

Korey Nnokam was a cherished member of the Broken Bow High School community who played on the boys’ varsity football team from 2021 to 2024.

In a heartfelt statement, Broken Bow Public Schools expressed their grief via a lengthy post, which reads:
