For the first time in two years, the family saw each other. And Cameron didn’t disappoint, winning the prestigious tournament in some style.
The 29-year-old Australian golfer has a tight-knit relationship with his family. It was his father who made him passionate about the sport, and by age 12, he was already beating his dad’s friends at Wantima Golf Club.
Cameron came close to winning the LIV Golf title but was edged by the American golfer Dustin Johnson. Smith was the closest to the hole but missed out on the $4 million payday.

Due to COVID restrictions, the sibling duo hadn’t seen each other for two years, making the victory even more emotional. Cameron and Mel grew up around golf courses.
Their dad would pick them up from school, and in the car, he would carry their golf gear. The sibling duo would get changed in the car and go straight to the golf course.
And slowly, as they grew older, Cameron decided to make golf his profession, and Mel moved away from the sport. She currently works in a power company as an administrator.
The supportive sister would jet off to Florida during the early years of the golfer living in the US States. It was because the Australian golfer would suffer from homesickness.
Mel is available on Facebook but has shared limited photos. She is unmarried but is in a relationship with a man named Lachland Bowes.

Cameron Smith’s parents, Des and Sharon Smith, supported Cameron’s budding golf career since his younger days.
Des Smith was the one to ignite the passion for golf in Cameron. A scratch golf player at Wantima Golf Club in Brisbane, Des would follow his dad around the golf courses.
Des never became a professional golfer, and his ambition remained unfulfilled, but he lives his dream through his son.
Currently, Des has a printing job that starts early in the morning and ends every day at 2 pm. His mom, Sharon Smith, is semi-retired, having worked most of her life at Chandlers’ furniture department.
In 2022, when Cameron won the prestigious Claret Jug, Des wasn’t there to watch him lift the trophy. Instead, the father-son duo shared an emotional phone call.
Speaking to the Australian Golf Digest, Des said he wasn’t surprised by his son’s success as he always put effort into his training.
