David opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a clinical finish — his 35th international goal in just 66 appearances, setting a national record.
After receiving a well-placed pass from Mathieu Choinière, David turned and calmly fired a precise diagonal shot past goalkeeper Mario González. This goal sparked a momentum shift, with Tajon Buchanan adding a second just two minutes later.
With the win, Canada topped Group B and secured a spot in the quarterfinals, where they’ll face Guatemala in Minneapolis.
Furthermore, with his recent performance, Jonathan David not only won the hearts of many but also made his parents, especially his late mother, proud, whose influence still drives his passion for the game.
