The Choctaw, Oklahoma, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved coach and longtime resident, Michael ‘Mike’ Gatson.
Michael Gatson passed away earlier this week; however, details surrounding his untimely death are not disclosed. He was in his late 50s.
Mike was a cherished member of the Texas and Oklahoma sports community and touched the lives of numerous young athletes with his amazing coaching skills.
A native of Marshall, Texas, Michael Gatson attended Marshall High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball and led his team in several victories.
He graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and went on to become an exceptional youth football coach in Choctaw and Guthrie, Oklahoma.
He coached the first grade little league football team.
Furthermore, the untimely death of Coach Michael Gatson has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.
Many of his loved ones are sharing Mike’s memories on social media and have extended their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Michael Gatson is Survived By His Wife, Kids and The Entire Family
In addition to being an amazing coach, Michael Gatson was a devoted husband to his longtime wife, Jamie Stavig Gatson, and a great father to their two kids, McKenna and Landon.
Michael Gatson raised both of his children to be exceptional athletes.
Following in their father Michael’s footsteps in sports, Landon and McKenna began their athletic journey from a very young age.
McKenna Gatson played varsity basketball at Guthrie High School. Wearing jersey #44 and standing 5’8”, McKenna played as a point guard and led her team in several victories. She graduated in 2022.
Likewise, Michael’s son Landon Gatson plays boys varsity football at Choctaw High School and is set to graduate in 2026.
Standing 6’3” and wearing jersey #10, Ladon plays as a quarterback and won the state championship in 2024.
In addition to his wife, Jamie, and two kids, Michael Gatson is also survived by his siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, couisns and the entire family.
He was preceded in death by his brother Wilford Gatson, and parents Leo Gatson Sr. and Dortheir Allen Gatson.
Michael’s contribution to the sports community and his kind nature will always be remembered by his loved ones. His family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
