A teacher and sports coach in San Bernardino County has been arrested following claims of sexual abuse involving a minor.

Elvin P. Vereau, 52, works at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands under the Redlands Unified School District.

In addition to teaching, he has also coached both football and baseball, holding positions such as Varsity Defensive Line Coach, Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator, and Junior Varsity Head Baseball Coach for the BlackHawks.

He was taken into custody on May 13 after Riverside police investigated a report made by a minor about being sexually abused.

Following his arrest, district officials placed Vereau on administrative leave while they continue to look into the matter.

So far, no details have been shared about his relationship to the alleged victim or victims, and no photo of him has been released by law enforcement.

A Longtime Redlands Unified Teacher’s Issue Raised Concerns After Past District Scandals And A Recent $45.5 Million Settlement

Superintendent Juan Cabral emphasized that keeping students safe is the school district’s main concern.

He explained that all school employees must go through background checks, including one by the Department of Justice, before they are allowed to work with students.

The district thanked the Riverside Police Department for acting quickly and said it is focused on ensuring that any students who may have been affected get the help and support they need.

Elvin Vereau has also worked as a Special Education Teacher’s Aide and Football Coach in the Springfield School District R-XII in Missouri since August 2007.

Vereau has also supported instruction in subjects including Algebra, English, Health, Computers/Typing, World History, and Biology while coaching football at the school.

A Facebook user named Arisa Shawn expressed frustration over the recent arrest of Elvin Vereau, a longtime teacher in the Redlands Unified School District, for alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

She pointed out that this comes after the district paid a $45.5 million settlement related to past abuse cases involving staff.

She also mentioned that the district recently reached a separate settlement with a former HR employee accused of failing to protect victims.

Shawn criticized the timing of the district’s press release about the arrest, noting that it was sent out during a school board meeting, where no one addressed the issue.

Instead, the meeting focused on topics like book restrictions and flag policies.

I kid you not. Not only did our school district recently pay out $45.5 million in a settlement to victims of sexual assault by teachers, not only is our district the poster child for predator teachers, not only did our district just settle up with the HR person who did not do her job and protect these victims, but now… Now…
Another Redlands Unified teacher, Elvin Vereau, was just arrested for sexual abuse of a minor in Riverside County. He’s a special education teacher at Citrus Valley High School, who has worked for the district for more than 10 years. Unfuckingbelievable.
And the press release was sent out during the school board meeting, and no one has acknowledged it. Instead they are still talking about book banning and flag policies. Still.
