Marshall was the foundation of the PAAVO Running System, named after Finnish Olympic legend Paavo Nurmi.
His teams, notably at Elkhart Central High School, achieved remarkable success, including winning the 1973 Indiana boys’ cross-country state title.

He pursued higher education at Western Michigan University and Indiana University, later settling into a career that blended teaching with coaching.
Sellers was deeply devoted to his family, often crediting his parents, Harold and Vesta, and his brother Graham for instilling the principles that guided his life.

One of his sayings, which was even shared in 2017 by the South Bend Tribune, says;
“Teaching is the heart of living. It’s about doing something you’ve never done or didn’t want to do. It’s about testing character.”
