Joe Whitt Jr., an American professional football coach, has been married to Erica Whitt, and they have three children, Joseph, Ava, and Zoe.
His hobbies are his children, and he actively supports them.
Joe Whitt Jr. is an American football coach known for developing top defensive talent.
His recent role was as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and held the position for less than two years before being fired on January 6, 2026.
He had built his reputation as an excellent secondary coach. In 2021, he joined the Dallas Cowboys, where he helped star cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland have breakout seasons.
Afterward, Joe followed head coach Dan Quinn to Washington in 2024 to run the Commanders’ defense. Sadly, the Commanders struggled during the 2025 season.
After a string of poor performances, Quinn took over the defensive playcalling duties on November 10, 2025.

Joe Whitt Jr.’s Family is His Greatest Team
NFL coach Joe Whitt Jr. became one of the great coaches with the support of his family.
He is married to his wife, Erica Whitt, and together they are the proud parents of three children: Joseph, Ava, and Zoe.
When asked about the family bond, Joe mentioned that his kids are his hobbies.
He is a dedicated “girl dad” to Ava and Zoe and an actively involved father to his son, Joseph. His commitment goes beyond just attending games and events.
You talked about my dad being a football coach, and he was away. So, I wanted to make sure that my kids were my hobby. So, it’s my family, it’s football, and it’s really just my faith in God. And other than that, I’m a simple guy. I’m a country boy from Alabama. That’s all I am.

Joe has openly shared his family’s journey with his son’s dyslexia, turning a challenge into an opportunity for connection.
He created a special instructional video to help Joseph improve his reading while practicing football. This creative solution allowed them to bond over football while supporting Joseph’s learning.
Joseph graduated from Prosper High School, and Ava competes in track & field.
It’s important for the young kids to know that you can learn so much from books—even if you’re not necessarily reading from books, but getting them on tape. That’s the great thing about technology now—you can get whatever you need, and you can go through books and expand your mind. It gets you thinking outside of the box. And I’m a real believer in that.

Joe’s deep belief in the power of reading and family time is why he joined the “Geek the Library” project. He wants them to know he will always make the effort to read to them as much as possible.
His family isn’t just a part of his life, but they are his inspiration, hobby, and most important coaching job.
