The DeKalb, Illinois, community is mourning the death of beloved longtime coach, Timothy ‘Tim’ Holt.
Timothy Holt passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, peacefully at his home at the age of 75, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.
Born on October 30, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Tim Holt began his athletic journey from a very young age, excelling in multiple sports.
He was a cherished member of the Chicago and DeKalb, Illinois, sports community and touched the lives of many with his amazing coaching skills and cheerful nature.
Tim Holt served as a longtime head football and track & field coach at DeKalb School District, guiding young athletes in their sports careers and building a reputation as a legendary high school coach.
He was the head boys’ football and track coach at DeKalb High School. Having started his journey in 1982, Tim led his boys’ track team in several victories until his retirement in 2021.
Late Tim Holt built a lasting legacy within DeKalb’s boys’ track and field program, guiding athletes with dedication, discipline, and heart.
His coaching tenure appeared notably active during the 2010s, including leading the team through several successful seasons from 2012–2018 and the standout 2013–14 campaign, when DeKalb earned a 3A sectional title.

Timothy Holt is survived by his longtime wife, Pamela Holt, his siblings, nieces, nephews, and the entire family.He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie G. Holt and Shirley Davis Holt.
Tim’s father, Leslie Holt, passed away on May 26, 2014, at the age of 88. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy, a WWII veteran.
Likewise, his mother, Shirley Mae Holt Davis, passed away on August 18, 2007, at the age of 78. Shirley served as a bookkeeper for St. James Hospital for 40 years.
A celebration of life to honor the late Tim Holt will be held in the spring of 2026, and the family will soon provide details about his memorial and funeral services.
