Muncie, Indiana Mourns Longtime Delta High School Multi-Sports Coach and Army Veteran Kurt Griffis, Survived by Wife Lauren and Three Sons

The Muncie, Indiana, community is mourning the untimely death of a beloved native, longtime soccer and track & field coach, and army veteran, Kurt Griffis.

Kurt Griffis passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025; however, his family hasn’t disclosed the details surrounding his untimely death.

Griffis was a cherished member of the Muncie, Indiana, sports community and touched the lives of many with his amazing coaching skills and his kind nature.

A 2004 graduate of Ball State University, Kurt Griffis began his athletic journey from a very young age, excelling in multiple sports, and went on to become one of the legendary and beloved local high school coaches in the community.

Coach Griffis served as the head boys soccer coach of Delta High School for over a decade and led his team, the Delta Eagles, to several victories and won numerous titles for his remarkable journey.

Additionally, Kurt was serving as the head unified track & field coach at Delta High School and also as a beloved construction and technology teacher.

He also taught Technology 7 at Delta Middle School for years, guiding numerous students in their academic journey.

Prior to beginning his career as a coach, Kurt Griffis served in the military as a proud U.S. Army officer.

He was part of the U.S. Army and the combat arms for seven years and was deployed to Bosnia, a country in southeastern Europe, where he stayed for a year and fought bravely in the Bosnia War.

Furthermore, the untimely death of Kurt Griffis has left his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.

Many of his loved ones are sharing his memories on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“You will be so missed Kurt Griffis. I can’t even wrap my head around that you are gone. My heart breaks. Your smile and laugh lit up a room. You were one of the kindest souls I knew. Thank you for the influence you had on my son and all the students that walked into your path.”

Kurt Griffis is Survived By His Longtime Wife, Lauren, Three Sons, and The Entire Family

Kurt Griffis was not just an amazing coach but also a devoted husband to his longtime wife, Lauren, and a great father to their three sons, Isaac, Levi, and Zion.

While Lauren hasn’t released any statement regarding the untimely death of her beloved husband, Kurt Griffis, the couple were happily married for over 26 years, raising all three of their sons to be exceptional athletes.

Lauren serves as a beloved teacher and assistant track & field coach at Delta High School.

Likewise, follwing in their father’s footsteps in sports, Isaac, Zion, and Levi played football and soccer at Delta High School, where their father, Kurt, spent decades as a head soccer coach.

Zion and Levi Griffis further continued to carry on the family’s legacy in sports and currently attend Indiana University East, where they are both members of the Boys’ soccer team.

Furthermore, Kurt’s eldest son, Isaac Griffis, a 2022 graduate of Ball State University, currently serves as a Lawn and Garden Salesman at Reynolds Farm Equipment in Lebanon, Indiana, and is happily married to Lexie Griffis and has three kids.

In addition to his wife, Lauren, three sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, Kurt Griffis is survived by his parents, Jerry and Jane Griffis, and the entire family.

His remarkable contribution to the Indiana community as a proud army veteran and beloved coach will always be remembered. Kurt’s family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
