Andrew Edward “Andy” Grobe, aged 39, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, leaving behind his wife, Ashley Grobe, and their two kids, Camilla and Jane.
The Grobe family was struck with a tragic incident in February 2025 after Andy, a beloved husband, father, and son, took his last breath after suffering a heart attack.
Andy Grobe was born on November 6, 1985, to father J. Daniel Grobe and mother Jane F. Grobe in Latrobe.
The 39-year-old Andy was a man of faith and a dedicated Catholic who worked as a deputy director for Allegheny County Parks.
Andy completed a bachelor of science degree in parks and recreation from Lock Haven University in 2018.
He was a 2013 graduate with a master’s degree in sports management from the California University of Pennsylvania.
Patrick Karnash, a close friend and colleague from Hempfield Township, wrote a heartfelt message praising him.
He also called on everyone to support his family while he was in the hospital, clinging to life under the care of doctors. The post read,
My friend, Andy Grobe, recently suffered a heart attack that will forever change the lives of everyone who knows him. Andy has been in my life for 20 years. His brother Matt convinced me to bring him in as an intern at Nemacolin and later he and I shared a singular desk when we worked together at Hempfield Township.
“He and I were fast friends and I came to find inspiration in Andy and he helped me through more challenging times than I care to admit,” Patrick recalled Andy’s selfless nature.
He also reflected on the entire Grobe family, who have always been welcoming and made everyone feel at home, writing,
If you know the Grobe family you know the smile and easy laugh they all share. The Grobes are friends to all, and now they are up against the fight of their lives.
Similarly, Patrick urged everyone to help the Grobe family through a GoFundMe account.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Whitney at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. James F. Podlesny, O.S.B., officiating.
