A promising 19‑year‑old athlete and beloved community member, Jack Pfister, passed away on June 26, 2025, in Greer, South Carolina.

While the exact cause has not been publicly disclosed, the outpouring of grief and love spoke volumes about how deeply he was cherished.

Jack Pfister was a rising young basketball star who graduated from Greer Middle College High School (GMC), often referred to in headlines as GMC.

He wore jersey #15 and played power forward and center for GMC’s varsity basketball team.

    Jack Pfister, born in 2006, was a beloved high school basketball standout from Greer Memorial Christian High School (GMC).

    A native of Greer, South Carolina, he was known for his towering presence, leadership, and heart.

    Jack helped lead GMC to its first-ever regional title with a performance that would go down in school history.

    In his now-legendary “flu game” during his junior year, he battled through illness with determination, delivering a performance that etched his name into school history.

    He was visibly ill, pale, and battling flu-like symptoms, but he insisted on suiting up.

    Despite his condition, he played nearly the entire game and dropped 27 points, leading his team to a dramatic victory.

    Coaches and fans said they could see the pain on his face, but also the fire in his eyes. That game didn’t just win a trophy, it won hearts.

    Pfister scored over 1,000 points during his basketball career and played a key role in leading the team to its first-ever region championship.

    He is especially remembered for hitting a legendary game-winning shot, known as “the play,” with just 1.8 seconds left on the clock.

    More than just an athlete, Jack was charismatic, funny, and deeply loyal.

    He inspired everyone around him, teammates, classmates, coaches, and younger students who looked up to him as more than just a sports hero.

    After graduating from GMC High School in 2024, Jack Pfister was beginning to shape the next chapter of his life.

    Tragically, his life was cut short before his dreams could fully unfold.

    His sudden passing in June 2025, at just 19 years old, sent shockwaves through the community.

    The GMC community and Pfister’s family are mourning his loss with deep sorrow, heartfelt tributes, and plans to honor his legacy in lasting ways.

    Former teammates, classmates, teachers, and coaches have shared emotional stories about his impact on and off the court.

    One of his well-wishers paid heartfelt tribute, saying:

    he will be miss and we praying for his family.

    In his honor, GMC announced plans to retire his jersey, and his family launched the “Play Big, Love Bigger Foundation” to support youth athletics and mental health advocacy.

    Jack is survived by his loving parents, siblings, and extended family.
