Dan was a talented athlete who made his mark in both rugby and football. Born on August 3, 1978, he played rugby for the Windsor Rogues Rugby Club and represented Team Canada in Rugby League.
During his time at the University of Windsor, Dan shone as a football player for the Windsor Lancers. Not to forget, he also earned a spot on the All-Canadian football team twice in 2000 and 2001.
Eventually, thanks to his skills, he landed a four-year professional career in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
In 2007, Dan Gyetvai was honored on the Gino Fracas Wall of Honour.

Not to forget, his brother Mike is also an offensive lineman who forged an impressive football career both in college and professionally.
A standout at Michigan State, he started 23 games across multiple positions, excelling at both guard and tackle. In 2007, he was selected third overall in the CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders.
Just like Dan Gyetvai, brother Mike also pursued a degree in mechanical engineering.
After retiring from professional football, Dan chose to focus on family and farming with his father. That said, he stayed connected to the sport he loved by working as a football referee.
Dan also built a successful career as a mechanical engineer, working at Cami Automotive, Labatt’s, and later as a manager in the Facility Management department at Western University.
The former athlete enjoyed woodworking, cooking, going to the gym, and recently discovered a passion for kickboxing. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.
A memorial for Dan will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in London, Ontario. Visitations are scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m.
