Former St. Stan’s Coach Amilcare C. “Butch” Sepa Jr. Passes Away At Age 84, Leaving his Wife and Children Behind

Former St. Stan’s boys basketball teamĀ coach, Amilcare C. “Butch” Sepa Jr., has lost his life aged 84 at UCONN’s John Dempsey Hospital on September 27, 2025.

The coach is survived by his wife of over six decades, Pat, his children James Sepa, Jeff Sepa, and Joel Sipa.

Butch was also a kind and loving gentleman who always had time for his grandchildren. And no matter the situation, he would rush to help anyone in need.

A Dedicated Professional

Butch, a Bristol resident, was a great Boston Celtics fan growing up, and he eventually turned his passion into a profession for a brief time.

The graduate of the E.C. Goodwin Technical High School also served in the Army before becoming a coach.

Butch was the leading man behind the 24-0 record to a state championship with the St. Stan boys’ basketball team in 1979.

In the time when women’s sports weren’t given a lot of priority, he also helped form and coach the women’s basketball team at the school.

A former female student wrote, “He was my coach at St Stanislaus School from 6th to 8th grade for the girls and boys basketball teams. He would always give my sisters and I ride home from games & practices. Because that’s who he was!!! Rest In Peace, Mr. Butch.”

His dedication as a professional to the Army, Guard, and as a Coach, and his over three decades in manufacturing are truly remarkable, as he always had a passion and energy for what he loved and what he did.

Due to his humility, kindness, and Personality, he will be missed by everyone who knew him. “Our heartfelt sympathies in this, your time of grief,” wrote an individual.

John Dungan Shared, “Times I would share many memories with Butch and his loving family during many get-togethers. I treated him as my uncle, cause in my mind he was just that. I will miss the glow of his presence any time he was near. Many times in the Army national guard many of the other soldiers and I would enjoy the pick me ups from his wit and joyful nature of Butch. Plus, everyone would ask me how I was related to the joy SSG Sepa. May God’s grace bless him in heaven. Until we meet again in Valhalla.”

He has received numerous other Condolences from people who not just knew him, but loved and respected him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, Forestville, CT.

As a national servant, the late coach will also receive military honors, which will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.

  • Sepa Jr. was born on April 30, 1941, to late Amilcare C.Sepa Sr., and Stella Sepa.
  • Coach Butch was also honored with the Archdiocese of Hartford’s St. Joseph Medal for service and dedication to the community.
  • He joined the Connecticut Army National Guard and retired from it after serving in the Army during the Vietnam era.
