Florida State University (FSU) baseball player Wes Mendes’s parents, Shannon and Blair, are proud of his contribution to FSU’s recent win over Mississippi State.

On June 1, 2025, Wes Mendes led FSU to a 5-2 victory over Mississippi State in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional final, earning their second straight regional title and a spot in the Super Regionals.

Mississippi State started with a 2-0 lead, but Mendes stayed composed, pitching a career-high eight innings, striking out nine, and keeping FSU in the game.

A two-run homer from Cal Fisher in the seventh and clutch hits from Max Williams and Myles Bailey in the eighth helped FSU rally. This victory secured FSU’s 19th Super Regional appearance, the most in college baseball.

His mother, Shannon, stays out of the public eye, and little to no information about her is available; nonetheless, she takes great pride in his growing career.

While his father, Blair, has a praiseworthy career, it is worth noting that Mendes plays football for his father’s alma mater.

Baseball Player Wes Mendes’ Father, Blair Mendes, Is an Attorney!

Blair Mendes, a well-known lawyer based in Tampa, Florida, began his legal career as a prosecutor, first working at the St. Lucie County State Attorney’s Office and later at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office in Florida.

As a prosecutor, he worked to hold wrongdoers accountable, handling cases to ensure justice was served.

Blair then transitioned to victim advocacy, joining a respected national law firm that specialized in assisting victims of neglect in 2003.

He took on cases involving nursing home abuse, car and truck accidents, and faulty products.

Over time, he became a managing attorney, making important decisions about which cases the firm would take and negotiating settlements for clients.

In 2020, Blair co-founded his own law firm, Mendes, Reins & Wilander, PLLC, in Tampa. This allowed him to continue his mission of helping victims of neglect and abuse, especially in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Blair’s firm specializes in complex cases, including medical malpractice, catastrophic injuries, car, truck, and motorcycle accidents, as well as nursing home and assisted living facility abuse, premises liability, and drug rehab facility injuries.

Thus far, attorney Blair has been involved in over 50 jury trials, including a landmark case in 2010 that resulted in a $114 million verdict for a nursing home abuse case in Polk County, Florida.

Throughout his career, he has secured over $300 million in settlements for his clients, helping them recover from injuries and losses resulting from neglect or accidents.

His work has earned him recognition; Super Lawyers magazine named him a “Rising Star” in 2013, 2014, and 2015, an honor given to top young lawyers.

He was also selected for The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40 in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, recognizing his skill and success as a trial lawyer.

Blair earned both his bachelor’s degree in 1997 and law degree in 2000 from Florida State University.
