Kaden Moodley, a 15-year-old student and hockey player at Glenwood High School, collapsed and passed away during a warm-up for a hockey match on March 18, 2025, at the school’s sports field in Durban.
The young athlete is survived by his parents, father, Thevan Moodley, and mother, Kammy Moodley, twin brother, Kellen, and two older sisters, Bre and Tammy Moodley.
Kaden and his twin brother Kellen were born on November 24, 2009. Their second eldest sister, Bre, was born on July 29, 2008.
The tragic incident occurred when Kaden, a passionate hockey player, began to feel unwell while warming up with his team at the Three Schools Astro in Glenwood, Durban.
According to his father, Thevan, Kaden had been kicking a ball during the warm-up when he told his teammates they needed a substitute for the upcoming hockey game.
Moments later, he collapsed suddenly. Paramedics attempted CPR for over 30 minutes but were unable to revive him.
Despite the swift response from first responders and over 30 minutes of resuscitation efforts, Kaden could not be saved and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Reports indicate Kaden showed no signs of illness beforehand, making this a sudden and tragic event.
Meanwhile, the cause of death remains pending post-mortem results, leaving some uncertainty about the medical reasons behind his passing.

My dear Smotherson,
Tammy Moodley
No words can describe the feeling of having to live life without you, to have to close your eyes for the last time and to have a part of me leave with you 🕊
I can’t say I’ve gained an angel when you were, and will always be, my angel 🤍
I am so proud to be your sister. I love you more than words could ever describe ❤️ Rest Easy, Broski.
A 1993 graduate of Kharwastan Secondary, Thevan, described the devastating moment he and his wife, Kammy, received the news that their son was unwell.
The couple rushed to the school, only to find paramedics already working tirelessly to revive Kaden.

Similarly, his twin brother, Kellen, has been left devastated by the tragedy.
Just minutes before his collapse, Kaden had been captured in a photograph, a moment his father later shared on social media, writing,
The way my son loved photos. This was taken a few minutes before his untimely passing … My son, 15-year-old Kaden, has returned home to the angels. Until we meet again, baby boy … Life will never be the same again.

Glenwood High School principal Pierre Jacobs released a statement expressing the school’s deep sadness, writing
We appreciate and understand there will be much speculation and potential for misinformation at this traumatic time, and therefore wanted to confirm there had been an incident where a boy collapsed after an activity and despite efforts by Glenwood staff and ALS paramedics he passed away.
Following the tragic incident, the school has canceled all sporting and cultural fixtures for the week, including a scheduled match against Westville Boys’ High School.
