A brief fight broke out between players from North Carolina A&T University and Elon University following their homecoming football game in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The incident happened after the Aggies secured a 13-10 victory over the Elon Phoenix.

The postgame altercation occurred when Elon players crossed over to the North Carolina A&T sideline following the conclusion of the game. What should have been a celebration of the home team’s hard-fought victory briefly turned into a confrontation between players from the two universities.

According to a report by WXII 12 News, both university athletic departments released statements addressing the incident. The two head coaches also met at midfield after the confrontation, shook hands and apologized to each other.

Elon University Responds to Postgame Fight

Elon University acknowledged the incident and expressed disappointment over the actions of its players following the game.

In an official statement, Elon Athletics apologized for the behavior at the conclusion of the matchup and recognized that the incident took attention away from North Carolina A&T’s homecoming celebration.

The university emphasized that its student-athletes, coaches and staff are expected to maintain high standards of sportsmanship.

Elon’s statement also confirmed that the athletic department is reviewing what happened and will take appropriate action.

The response indicates that the university is treating the postgame incident seriously. However, the statement did not identify the individual players involved or specify what disciplinary measures could follow.

North Carolina A&T Releases Statement

North Carolina A&T also addressed the situation following its homecoming victory.

Athletics Director Katreshia Louis-Verrett said the incident ultimately provided an opportunity for learning and growth.

“College is a time to learn and grow, and we were glad to see that ultimately take place in this situation,” Louis-Verrett said.

She also acknowledged the competitive nature of the game, congratulated the Aggies on their victory and wished Elon success for the remainder of its season.

Her comments reflected the university’s focus on the team’s performance and the importance of sportsmanship following the confrontation.

Aggies Secure 13-10 Homecoming Victory

Despite the postgame incident, North Carolina A&T had plenty to celebrate after defeating Elon 13-10.

The closely contested matchup ended with the Aggies earning a three-point victory in front of their homecoming crowd.

The brief fight became an unfortunate ending to an otherwise competitive football game. However, the meeting between the two head coaches and the statements released by both universities showed an effort to address the situation.

As of the latest report, Elon Athletics said it was reviewing the incident. Neither university had announced specific disciplinary actions against individual players.
