Harbor Creek Swimming Coach Maxine Lundberg, 69, Was Preceded In Death By Her Parents, Earl and Mary; a sister; And An Infant Brother

Maxine Lundberg, Harbor Creek swimming and diving coach and a 2024 inductee into the Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame, died on Monday.

Maxine graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1973 and received her degree in Physical Education from Edinboro University.

She first taught in Skokie, IL, returning to Harbor Creek High School, where she taught physical education and health. She was a beloved coach in swimming, diving, and track.

Lundberg was privileged to take many students to the state competitions.

She also enjoyed traveling and scuba diving and served on the Sheriff’s Rescue and Recovery Team.

Swimming Coach Maxine Lundberg Died At The Age Of 69

Harbor Creek High School swimming coach Maxine Lundberg, born on October 19, 1955, took her last breath on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 69.

However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Harbor Creek High School took to their official Facebook handle to mourn the loss of Maxine and offered their heartfelt condolence. They wrote,

How lucky we have been in HC to have such a dedicated teacher and coach. Ms. Lundberg you will be missed for your dedication, inspiration, love of all things swimming and diving, sense of humor and seeing the best in all of us

Dunkirk, New York, resident John Crawford also took to his Facebook handle and mourned the tragic death of Maxine. He wrote,

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Maxine Lundberg! What a beautiful soul! What an excellent swim and dive coach at Harbor Creek HS in northwest Pa. She possessed many talents beyond teaching and coaching. She helped me design the gravestone for my late wife! I will miss our conversations on the deck and on the phone! Godspeed Maxine! You have touched and blessed many lives!

Kevin Sinnott remembered the time he spent with Maxine. He wrote,

A former member of the Skin divers, Maxine Lundberg passed away yesterday. I met her when I was young and my dad was diving with the Skin Divers. My son was later coached by her in high school. Great person who will be missed by many. I attached a picture with her on an ice dive with Sam Leo to her left and my dad Mike on the far right.

As per the source, funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Dusckas Funeral and Cremation Service, Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Road.

Maxine will always be remembered for her contributions to Harbor High School as a swimming and diving coach. Rest in Heaven, Maxine Lundberg.

Maxine Lundberg Is Survived By Her Brothers After The Death Of Her Parents

Maxine Lundberg was raised by her late parents, Earl and Mary Lundberg, both of whom were actively involved in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Sadly, her father, Earl, passed away on June 21, 1990, at 67.

On the other hand, Maxine’s mother, Mary, graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1944 and lived most of her life enjoying many winters in Florida.

She worked at General Electric Co. and was a member of East Lake Road Alliance Church and LifeWorks Senior Center.

Sadly, Mary passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at St. Vincent Health Center at 85.

Following her parents’ death, she lived with his brothers, Eric and Douglas Lundberg.

According to Douglas’s Facebook handle, he lives in Williamsburg, Virginia, and works at Lundberg Construction. He is engaged to Shirley Pierson Vermillion, the founder and president of LoveLight Placemaking.

Eric has been married to Janet Lundberg. Currently, they are mourning the tragic death of their sister, Maxine Lundberg.
