James “Jim” Serianni of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 78. Born April 30, 1948, in Philadelphia, he was the son of William and Marguerite Forbes Serianni.
After finishing high school, Jim served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. That sense of duty carried into the rest of his life, shaping decades of work and community service in Montgomery County.
A Career Built on Service
Jim spent 42 years in the automobile business, working in sales, leasing, and management. When he retired from that world, he didn’t slow down. Instead, he took a job driving a school bus for TSI, a role he held for seven years and genuinely loved. Those who knew him said he took real joy in working with children, and this later chapter became one of the most meaningful of his life.
His commitment to others extended well beyond his paying jobs. For many years, Jim volunteered with the Harleysville Ambulance Association. He also gave one day a week to the Harleysville Senior Center, where he helped serve meals to local seniors.
At home, Jim was a devoted father and grandfather. He showed up for concerts, preschool graduations, sporting events, and countless other milestones in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He coached baseball and basketball and loved cheering from the sidelines, treasuring every chance to build memories with his family.
The Heart Behind the Nickname “Trouble”
Friends and family knew Jim as outgoing and unafraid to speak his mind, a personality that earned him the affectionate nickname “Trouble.” But underneath that playful, spirited exterior was a man with a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
As his health began to decline, Jim found comfort in sitting on his porch and watching over his neighborhood. Neighbors came to know him as the “Mayor of Cheswyck,” a fitting title for a man who stayed connected to the community he loved right up to the end.
Jim is survived by his wife, Diana Swoyer Serianni, with whom he shared 43 years together, including 40 years of marriage; his children, Kimberly Milligan and her husband David, Chris Serianni and his wife Jane, and Austin Serianni and his wife Rachel; and his seven grandchildren, Heather, David, Brandon, Stella, Tate, Archie, and Emma. He is also survived by his brother Robert Serianni and sister in law Sheila Serianni, and his sister Margaret Mazer.
Services are pending, and details will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim’s memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
