Hilo, Hawaii, Stanley Patrick Grahovac Dies at 72, Remembered as Teacher and Coach

Stanley Patrick Grahovac, a longtime teacher, coach, referee, father and grandfather, died in Hilo, Hawaii, on August 17, 2026, at the age of 72. His obituary was published by Dodo Mortuary, Inc. in Hilo on October 1.

Born on April 17, 1954, Grahovac was remembered by his family and community for the many ways he supported young people and remained involved in sports. During his life, he worked as a substitute teacher and also served as a referee and coach.

Those who knew Grahovac described him as someone who could be counted on. His involvement extended beyond the classroom and athletic fields, as he regularly supported people around him and maintained strong connections throughout his community.

Stanley Grahovac’s Love of Sports

Sports played an important role in Grahovac’s life. He was a longtime sports enthusiast and had a particular connection to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He enjoyed following his favorite teams and sharing his enthusiasm for sports with family members and friends.

Grahovac also participated in Kupuna league softball. The league gave him an opportunity to compete while building friendships and enjoying the camaraderie that came with the sport.

He coached and played for the Kona Legends, a team that won its fourth State Championship just one week before his death. According to his family, the achievement brought Grahovac considerable pride and happiness.

His work with athletes and young people became an important part of the legacy he leaves behind. Through teaching, coaching and officiating, he had opportunities to influence people both on and away from the playing field.

Family Remembers Stanley Patrick Grahovac

Grahovac’s family remembered him first and foremost as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his children Justin Grahovac and Ros, Kayci Okazaki and Reid, Payton Grahovac and Becky, and Irish Grahovac.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Quinn Grahovac, Noa Grahovac and Kaizen Okazaki, along with his brother Craig Grahovac and former wife Kelly Jean Miral.

His family said Grahovac will be remembered for the lessons he taught, the relationships he built and the memories he created with those close to him. They also shared his simple message, “Be legendary.”

A memorial service for Stanley Patrick Grahovac is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, at Dodo Mortuary in Hilo. Visitation is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., followed by the service at 4 p.m. Live video streaming will also be available through Dodo Mortuary’s website.

Grahovac’s family said his influence will continue through his children, grandchildren, friends and the many people whose lives he touched during his 72 years.
