A standout guard in the WNBA, Sophie Cunningham is healing well after knee surgery and beginning her rehab journey.

Sophie Cunningham is a professional basketball player who plays for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.

On August 17, 2025, she suffered a serious knee injury during a game against the Connecticut Sun.

While trying to defend, another player accidentally fell into her leg, causing her to collapse in pain.

Doctors later confirmed she tore her MCL (a ligament in the knee), and she will miss the rest of the season.

Sophie had been an important player for her team, and many fans and teammates are sending her support as she begins her recovery.

Sophie’s Recovery Seems to be Going Well, and She’s Trying to Stay Positive!

Sophie Cunningham underwent surgery on August 22, 2025, to repair a torn MCL in her right knee.

She shared a hopeful message on Instagram Story before heading into surgery, writing: “See ya on the other side” alongside a hospital selfie.

Moreover, on her podcast Show Me Something, she said:

I really am in really good spirits… I’m just thankful to be where I’m at and be with the organization and the girls I’m with because they have brought life and my love of basketball back.

Doctors expect her to make a full recovery in time for the 2026 WNBA season.

Since the operation, she’s been resting and even posted a lighthearted video using her uninjured leg to grab snacks on Instagram story.

The Indiana Fever, already hit hard by injuries this season, signed veteran guard Shey Peddy to fill the gap left by Cunningham’s absence.

Fans, teammates, and supporters have shown love and concern for Sophie after her recent injury.

While many sent prayers for her speedy recovery, others remain deeply concerned about her health condition.

Moreover, her family, especially her sister, Lindsey, took to social media, showing frustration over the WNBA, saying:

@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you . @sophaller.

Sophie’s recovery is going well, and she’s clearly trying to stay positive. Her comeback won’t be quiet; it’ll be with more energy and strength.
