MMA Coach Joel Bane Was Taken Into Custody By Patrols After He Resisted Arrest In 2023

A combat veteran and MMA coach, Joel Bane, 47, was involved in a highly publicized DUI stop that resulted in his arrest.

The incident, which was captured on the police officer’s body camera, was widely shared online.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, Joel Bane crashed his Corvette, claiming he had run off the road while on his way to get meatball sandwiches for his kids.

Throughout the encounter, he admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in that day, but insisted he wasn’t intoxicated.

The situation worsened as he became erratic, citing his six combat deployments, PTSD, and background in martial arts.

Joel refused sobriety tests, threatened officers multiple times, and demanded that they either let him go or “kill” him, resulting in a standoff that blocked traffic.

Despite repeated de-escalation attempts by police officers, including offering to let him go home with a summons, Bane ultimately resisted arrest, had to be tased, and was taken into custody.

He was not booked immediately into jail but was transported to the station for processing and a breathalyzer test, which he refused initially.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of formal charges and court proceedings, but the incident grabbed huge public attention due to Bane’s military background and aggressive confrontation with police officers.
