Leeds United 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Patrick Bamford scored for Leeds United looking at England manager Gareth Southgate to help eliminate Tottenham’s European chances.

Stuart Dallas put Leeds ahead of his eighth league goal of the season in a spectacular Elland Road game. 

The Northern Ireland midfielder striking the distance after Hugo Lloris‘s inadequate response defended Sergio Reguilon from netting.

The lead lasted 12 minutes, Son Heung-min equalizing with a clinical finish after Dele Alli was allowed. Furthermore, before threading a clever pass into South Korea forward’s the path he was allowed to run unchallenged.

But Leeds responded with Bamford, who beat Ezgjan Alioski before his replacement. Rodrigo confirmed that the Spurs’ first defeat in three games under interim manager Ryan Mason.

On a frustrating day for the Spurs, Harry Kane scored two goals off the offside. And hit the bar from the free-kick. 

At the same time, Illan Meslier took a good save to block Serge Aurier’s deflected effort.

The Spurs in sixth place are five points adrift of fourth place with three games left, with their top teams. – West Ham and Chelsea – with games in hand.

Leeds, who started the weekend in 11th place, has moved up to Aston Villa and Arsenal. Both are playing on Sunday – will enter ninth.

Will Bamford get the Euro 2020 call?

Southgate, who will make his name in the months leading up to the Euro 2020 Championship, was on Elland Road to see Bamford score his 15th Premier League goal of the season.

Earlier in the season, Southgate said Bamford would be called up but opted for Olston Watkins of Aston Villa.

Before Moreno’s goal, after a superb run and passed by the returning Raphinha, settled it.

The result means Leeds will finish the season unbeaten at home. In the league against the so-called big six.

Will the Spurs make Europe?

The defeat was Tottenham’s second defeat since sacking Jose Mourinho last month. The 2020-21 season is going to be their 13th season without a major trophy. 

And after losing a match to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, they are now in danger of missing out on a place in Europe.

With Mourinho reviving Italy in Rome, Spurs’ demand for a permanent manager looks set to intensify in the off-season.
