The Malden and greater Boston communities are heartbroken over the tragic death of 14-year-old freshman at Malden Catholic High School, Marlo Walsh, on May 18, 2025.
Marlo, a talented member of the Girls Varsity Soccer team, passed away by suicide over the weekend in Charlestown, leaving her family, friends, and classmates in deep sorrow.
She was a student-athlete at Malden Catholic High School, where she played for the Girls Varsity Soccer team.
Marlo Walsh was a kind and driven student-athlete in the Class of 2028. She joined the soccer team in 2024 and quickly became a beloved teammate.
The growing soccer player had been a significant part of the school’s competitive soccer program, representing Malden Catholic in matches and contributing to the team’s performance.
The news of Marlo’s passing has brought an outpouring of love and sadness from Malden, Charlestown, and beyond.
Reia Briggs Connor, the mother of Marlo’s friend Aaron, wrote, “Prayers this is Aaron’s friend from school.“

A candlelight vigil is being planned for Thursday evening at Charlestown Peace Park to honor Marlo’s life.
Marlo leaves behind her parents, Patrick and Elena Walsh, her younger brother Aidan, her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, teammates, and friends.
This tragedy reminds us how important it is to talk openly about mental health, especially for young people facing school and social pressures.
At the moment, Marlo’s death has sparked calls for more support and conversations to help teens feel safe sharing their feelings.
Marlo’s friend, Amelia Stasinos, shared a post on Instagram stories which reads:
You can’t see people’s mental health. Please be kind always.
As part of the class of 2028, Marlo Walsh had several years ahead to continue developing her skills; however, that journey has tragically come to an end.
Meanwhile, the details surrounding her funeral services remain unknown as her family mourns her loss in private.
During this difficult time, we would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to Walsh’s parents, brother, friends, and extended family.
Rest In Peace, Marlo Walsh!
