The family noticed that his physical and mental capacities were declining quickly, and he needed a craniotomy, a brain surgery, for a significant brain bleed.

She further added that Erich required 48 hours of continuous talking post-surgery and that he was recovering at Friendship Village in Bloomington.

However, Erich Sailer couldn’t survive the brain complications and lost his life a few days after his brain surgery.

Erich Sailer, who arrived at Buck Hill in 1969, served as the first coach of Lindsey Vonn at Buck Hill Ski Racing Club.

Erich always told me that my technique and style were what made me fast. He taught me to stick with it, and I’ve never forgotten that,” said Lindsey Vonn.

Furthermore, he transformed Buck Hill into a ‘slalom factory’, producing U.S. racing stars, including Kristina Koznick, who became Buck Hill’s first World Cup race winner and worked with the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team for decades.

Erich Sailer also served as the founder and camp director emeritus of Erich Sailer Ski Racing Camps, Inc., and touched the lives of thousands with his amazing coaching skills.
