Patricia Ann Stringer, a respected Minnesota educator, softball coach and advocate for girls and women in sports, died on October 6, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born in Minneapolis on March 17, 1935, Stringer devoted much of her life to teaching, coaching and creating better opportunities for young female athletes.

Her obituary was published by Legacy.com on October 15, 2026, through the Cremation Society of Minnesota, First Memorial Funeral Chapel in Brooklyn Park.

Remembered as an athlete, teacher, coach, advocate and friend, Stringer built a lasting legacy through her work in education and her efforts to improve opportunities for girls in competitive sports.

Patricia Stringer’s Career in Education and Coaching

Stringer graduated from the University of Minnesota and went on to build a career as a physical education teacher and coach in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Her professional journey included work at Sunrise Park, Mariner High School and White Bear High School.

Her commitment to students and physical education earned her several honors during her career. Among them were Teacher of the Year at Mariner High School and the National Secondary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year award for the Central District.

Beyond the classroom, Stringer worked to ensure that girls and young women had fair opportunities to participate in athletics. She advocated for the implementation of Title IX protections, which helped advance equal opportunities and access to facilities in school sports.

Her leadership extended to state-level athletics. As president of the State Girls Softball Coaching Association and an adviser to the Minnesota State High School League board, she pushed for changes that strengthened girls’ softball competition.

Stringer supported the transition from slow pitch to fast pitch softball, helping establish a more skill focused and competitive environment for players. Her efforts reflected her belief in giving young athletes the chance to develop their abilities and compete at a higher level.

A Lasting Legacy in Minnesota Softball

Stringer’s passion for sports began long before she became a teacher and coach. During her early years in Minneapolis, she searched for opportunities to play baseball, often heading to Sibley Park in Southeast Minneapolis to join games with boys whenever she could.

As a young woman, she found opportunities to compete in softball through Victor’s Market and Nick’s Bowling in the Minneapolis Parks Board Parade One competition.

Her playing record reflected her talent and dedication. According to her obituary, she threw nine no hitters and maintained a .310 batting average during her career. Those accomplishments earned her recognition as a charter member of the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame.

Outside athletics, Stringer was remembered for the friendships she formed and the care she showed to others. Her influence reached beyond wins and individual achievements, touching students, fellow educators, athletes and members of the community.

Stringer was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Marie, and her brother, Raphael “Bud.”

In accordance with her wishes, no memorial service is planned. Her legacy remains connected to the generations of students and athletes she taught, coached and encouraged throughout her life
