Roger Mody, a prominent Greater Washington businessman, philanthropist, and partner at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, has died at the age of 61.

His family confirmed that he passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Ted Leonsis, managing partner at Monumental, announced Mody’s death in social media posts on Wednesday morning, calling him “a true giant of our community.

He remembered Mody as “a successful businessman, a pillar of the philanthropic community, and a mentor to many,” noting his love for family, friends, and D.C. sports.

Born in Washington, D.C. to Indian immigrant parents, Mody built an extraordinary career rooted in innovation and entrepreneurship.

In 1987, he co-founded technology contractor Signal Corp. with his first wife, Lori.

The Fairfax-based company designed and maintained computer networks for federal agencies and grew into a major contractor.

In 2002, Mody sold Signal to Arlington-based Veridian Corp. for $227 million in cash and notes, netting $125 million from the deal.

He later became an associate publisher of Inc. magazine and, in 2011, joined Monumental Sports & Entertainment as a partner.

His role connected him deeply with the Washington Wizards, Capitals, and Mystics.

Mody’s impact extended well beyond business. Through The Mody Foundation, which he founded, he directed resources to nonprofits supporting underprivileged children.

His philanthropic vision, shared with his wife Kyle, left a lasting mark on the Washington community.

In 2022, Roger and Kyle completed construction on “The Cliffs,” a 32,785-square-foot mansion in McLean.

Though they never moved in, they sold the home in 2024 for $25.5 million, one of the largest residential sales in Greater Washington history.

Mody’s family, including his wife Kyle and their children Alex, Erika, Zack, and Max, will honor his life with a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner.

In their tribute, the family expressed gratitude for the support they have received:

“Roger was deeply loved, and his warmth, generosity, and spirit touched countless lives. Our family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this very difficult time.”
