The NWSL club announces the termination of head coach Sean Nahas’ contract following undisclosed medical issues, after nearly four years as head coach.

Sean Nahas is a former head coach of the North Carolina Courage in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Coach began his tenure with the North Carolina Courage as an assistant coach in 2017.

He was promoted to interim head coach in 2021 following the departure of Paul Riley amid misconduct allegations.

Nahas was later named the permanent head coach in December 2021. Under his leadership, the Courage secured two NWSL Challenge Cup titles and made playoff appearances in both 2023 and 2024.

Nahas’s coaching journey also included roles with youth national teams and the Capital Area Soccer League.

The NWSL Team Announces the Termination of Head Coach Sean Nahas’ Contract Following Undisclosed Medical Issues!

On August 6, 2025, the North Carolina Courage announced that they had terminated the contract of head coach Sean Nahas, effective immediately.

The club’s brief statement emphasized its commitment to maintaining a professional and competitive environment for players, staff, and supporters, but did not provide details regarding the reasons for Nahas’ dismissal.

This decision follows an earlier announcement on June 8, 2025, when the team revealed that Nahas would not be present for an away match against the Washington Spirit due to “unforeseen medical reasons.”

He was last seen coaching on August 2 and had posted about training through poor weather just hours before the announcement.

At that time, assistant coach Nathan Thackeray temporarily assumed head coaching duties.

The abrupt nature of the termination has raised questions within the soccer community, as the team had not publicly disclosed any issues before the June announcement.

Nahas, who had been with the Courage since 2017 and became head coach in 2021, led the team to two NWSL Challenge Cup titles and playoff appearances in both 2023 and 2024.

His sudden departure has left fans and analysts speculating about the circumstances surrounding the decision.

As of now, the club has not provided further information, and the focus remains on supporting the team’s continued development and maintaining a competitive environment.

While there’s no public statement from Nahas about his next steps, his strong reputation and coaching record suggest he may remain involved in soccer.
