Parkland coach Terry German, who inspired generations on and off the court, is dead, passing peacefully at his Carolina Shores home.
The Lehigh Valley basketball community was devastated by the recent death of the 88 years old Parkland coach, Terry German. He was born and raised in Allentown, where he developed a lifelong passion for the game that would define his life.
Terry was rejected from the junior varsity at Allentown High School, however he persevered and showed resilience.

Later, he went on to West Chester University, where he set records that still stand today with 1,635 career points and 1,236 rebounds. In addition to basketball, he showed that he was a versatile athlete by earning 10 varsity letters across soccer, track, and golf.
His legacy as multi-sport athlete was further cemented, when he was honored with West Chester’s Hall of Fame.
Furthermore in 1959, Terry started coaching at Dieruff High School under the supervision of Dick Schmidt. They were unstoppable and together they formed one of the most memorable dynasties in the Lehigh Valley by winning four straight District 11 titles.
Although the family has not disclosed any information about his passing, Parkland coach Terry German passed away on September 25, 2025. He is survived by his son Matthew, daughters Beth and Kara, and his wife Colleen, to whom he was married for 62 years.
On November 29, Stephens Funeral Home in Upper Macungie will host a celebration of life for Terry German.
Moreover, Gentiva Hospice will receive memorial donations in recognition of his compassion and service. As a passionate sports enthusiast, Terry had sponsored community projects, charity golf tournaments, and scholarships for aspiring athletes.
Terry German’s journey from player to coach is a reminder that real champions build character far beyond the stats. Off the field, Terry was a devoted husband, a loving father and a treasured grandfather who cherished every moment with his family.

Terry showed his strategic prowess at Dieruff in 1977, by leading the Huskies to a District 11 championship and subsequent league titles.
Furthermore in 1979, he was honored with the league’s coach of the year, which reinforced his reputation as a coach. After returning to Parkland, Terry shaped athletes into leaders who embodied his values like discipline, unity and personal growth.
Even though Terry is no longer here, his teachings are still relevant in high school athletic teams today. At Parkland High School, the loss of coach Terry has a profound impact on the team morale.
Administrators and coaches appreciated his commitment and pointed out how his leadership established lasting foundation for success.
Beyond the court, Terry’s impact was felt at Camp Olympic, where he coached thousands of young athletes. Throughout his tenure from 1982 to 2005, the camp offered an unmatched learning environment and was home to renowned coaches like Dean Smith.
Terry German’s achievements in the past were comparable to those of other legendary Parkland coaches. He moved to North Carolina after selling Camp Olympic and kept inspiring locals from a distance.
His playing career, from high school courts to West Chester with record-breaking feats, laid the foundation for decades of coaching excellence.
Terry didn’t just teach basketball; he taught the young minds value of life and he left memories that will stay with them for decades. His championship legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
