Tommy Pham’s father was known for his talent in American football but later faced challenges with drug use and street crime.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham received a one-game suspension and was fined an undisclosed amount by MLB for inappropriate actions towards fans during Wednesday’s 3-0 Pirates win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Pham appealed the suspension, which was scheduled to be served in Friday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Thus, he was in the Pittsburgh lineup Friday, batting sixth and playing left field. The incident occurred during the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game.
Pham ran down a double by Travis d’Arnaud into the left-field corner and was touched on the back by a fan reaching for the ball with his glove.
He immediately turned to look at who touched him and stared at the fan before throwing the ball back to the infield.
Following the play, as Pham went back to his position, he gestured at the fan with, as MLB put it, an inappropriate action.
Pham told reporters before Friday’s game that he had spoken with his lawyer about his legal rights in the incident.

Tommy has only met his father twice. He visited his father for the first time when he was 4 and the second time when he was 12.
When Pham’s father was in prison, his mother, Tawana, worked as a busser, a casino waitress, and a bakery manager to pay the bills.
Tawana has always supported Pham in achieving his athletic dreams. However, she rarely attended Pham’s games as she worked so much.
His mother, Tawana, married an electrician named Fred Polk and had a daughter, Mercedes.
Pham had issues with his stepfather and said that once, when he was 25 years old, the two got into a fight, and his stepfather stabbed him below the rib cage.
