A teacher and coach from the Brownsville Independent School District was arrested for improper relationships with students.
Julio Ricardo Trujillo, 43, was taken into custody on 15 May by investigators from the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office and school district police.
Trujillo, who teaches Criminal Justice and Principles of Law at Rivera Early College High School, was arrested as part of a larger investigation into multiple BISD staff members.
At Rivera Early College High School in Brownsville, Texas, Julio Ricardo Trujillo was the head coach of the girls’ basketball team and also assisted with the girls’ track program.
Some other employees have already been let go or placed on leave while the investigation continues.
The teachers involved are reportedly connected to Rivera Early College High School and Hanna Early College High School.
After his arrest, Trujillo was taken to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, where he is waiting to go before a judge.

It was surprising for those who knew Julio Trujillo as a coach, teacher, and friend.
A friend of Julio “Ricky” Trujillo shared that the news of his arrest was difficult to process, especially since they had gone to school together.
Although it was hard, the friend felt it was important to share the information fairly, without letting personal feelings get in the way.
They confirmed that Trujillo was arrested for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student at Rivera High School and said they are waiting to see what happens in court.

Others said their son told them the situation was discovered after the girl’s boyfriend found out she was cheating on him with the teacher. That’s how everything started to come out.

A student who attended Rivera Early College High School mentioned that the situation felt unbelievable, especially considering that Trujillo’s wife had been trying to get pregnant. Still, he allegedly got a student pregnant.
It’s crazy because his wife was trying to get pregnant and he got a student pregnant instead… crazy work.
