Resident of Louisville, Kentucky, Coach Drury dedicated 45 years of his life to St. Xavier, where he was known for his commitment to the students and athletes he mentored.

As a football coach, teacher, and administrator, he shaped the lives of generations, offering guidance not only on the field but also in the classroom.

He was known for his “quiet authority,” with a mere glance having the ability to silence a room of 1,400 students.

This silent power was paired with a deep compassion for others, and he was revered for his genuine care for each student.

A well-wisher and former colleague, who worked alongside Coach Drury at Trinity High School, shared their thoughts on his legacy:

“God bless Arnold. He was a great man and one of the pillars of St. Xavier High School. I served for many years as his counterpart at Trinity High School. He was a class act and cared about our Trinity students as well as his own Tigers. We got along very well.”

Another former student shared a heartfelt message of gratitude, saying:

“Coach Drury was my 1st period teacher Freshman year. Great man who was dedicated to St.X and treated everyone fairly and equally. Whenever I returned to campus as an adult, I would enjoy getting to speak with him. Prayers for his family.”

Coach Drury’s sudden passing has deeply affected everyone who had the privilege of working with or being taught by him.

He was known for his ability to connect with students, athletes, and colleagues alike, fostering an environment of mutual respect, hard work, and community.

As the St. Xavier community reflects on the loss of one of its most dedicated pillars, plans for a memorial service are underway to honor his memory.
