Baseball announcer Eric “Doc” Lenaburg, or “The Doctor of Baseball,” suddenly took his last breath on June 9, 2025.

However, further precise information about his sudden demise remains concealed as his family is grieving in private.

Eric had worked as an announcer for over a decade. Likewise, he and his friend, Jim Campis Jr., had a baseball-themed podcast “Driving ’em In with Jim Campanis Jr & Eric Lenaburg” recorded while Campy is driving home, through the parking lot of LA.

Reportedly, about a week before Eric passed away, some of his close friends grew worried because they hadn’t heard from him.

Concerned for his well-being, Chuck Boyer mentioned in a Facebook post that friend Jim Campanis Jr. had reached out to the Peoria Police Department to request a wellness check and ensure Eric was okay, writing:

Jim Campanis Jr. and I were concerned we hadn’t heard from Doc in a week so Campy got hold of Peoria PD to go by and do a wellness check.

Another friend, Vasu Vaddiparty, penned a lengthy tribute, which reads:

The hits keep coming. Eric Lenaburg passed away today . He’s an AZ baseball guy worked as a broadcaster for the AZ fall league and grew up in SoCal. We had a few interactions by text or a phone call. Knew he was not doing well but from what I heard he passed of natural causes.
RIP Eric. Wish I had met you in person.

Eric Lenaburg had forged a prosperous career that blended voice work, education, and sports announcing.

For over a decade, he had been a narrator for McGraw-Hill Audio, lending his voice to audiobooks from his Los Angeles studio.

Before that, Eric spent five years as a reader and narrator for Audiobooks LLC, contributing to popular series like “Books On Tape” and “Books on CD.”

Likewise, his career also includes a decade-long stint as a real estate instructor at Westford College, where he helped students prepare for licensing and continuing education.

In sports, Eric brought energy and presence as a PA announcer for MLB spring training games, working with the Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, and San Diego Padres.

He also served as an announcer and scorekeeper in the Arizona Fall League.

Thus far, details surrounding his funeral services have not been published. During this difficult time, we offer our condolences to Eric’s family.

Rest Easy, Eric Lenaburg!
