The tragic passing of Southwest High School softball star Angelina Terrazas on November 8 left her parents, Arturo Terrazas and Melody Bingham, devastated as they mourned the loss of their courageous daughter, who fought a valiant battle against Stage 3 ovarian cancer.

Arturo Terrazas and Melody Bingham stood by their daughter’s side throughout her difficult journey after doctors diagnosed Angelina with ovarian cancer in March.

The parents watched their talented softball pitcher undergo surgery to remove a mass, her left ovary, lymph nodes, and the fallopian tube connected to her left ovary.

They supported her through the subsequent chemotherapy treatments that followed.

The parents reached out to their community for support during Angelina’s battle with cancer.

Melody Bingham and Arturo Terrazas organized fundraising events to help cover medical expenses that insurance wouldn’t pay.

In May, they invited the community to support their “baby girl” in her fight, expressing gratitude for the prayers and support from the softball community, Southwest High School, family, and friends.

On Saturday morning, Arturo and Melody witnessed a bittersweet moment when Southwest ISD awarded their daughter her high school diploma at University Hospital in San Antonio.

The parents didn’t know this would be Angelina’s last day.

Throughout that day, they welcomed dozens of teammates, former teammates, friends, and family members who visited to celebrate Angelina’s graduation and say their goodbyes.

Southwest softball coach Sandra Hernandez described the scene as moving, noting that the entire softball community came to show the Terrazas family how much people loved Angelina.

Angelina’s fighting spirit and dedication to softball reflected the strength her parents instilled in her.

She demonstrated remarkable courage by returning to class during treatment and even participating in limited softball practice activities in mid-April.

Her parents raised a daughter who not only excelled as a student and athlete but also showed exceptional care for her younger sister—a motherly instinct that extended to her teammates.

After Angelina passed away on Saturday night, Jennifer Servin announced the heartbreaking news, stating that Angelina had “gained her wings” and was finally free from pain and cancer.

The family faced the overwhelming task of managing funeral costs and remaining medical bills, prompting community members to establish fundraising efforts.

Family friend Michael C. Burkholder called for love, hugs, and prayers for Arturo Terrazas and Melody Bingham during their time of profound sadness and loss.

He praised Angelina’s brave fight against cancer and organized donation efforts to help the family with expenses.

Multiple community members, including members of Team STORM, extended their sincerest condolences to the Terrazas family.

They prayed that Arturo, Melody, and their family would find comfort, strength, and peace during this difficult time.

The Southwest softball community planned a “Prayer Circle and Movie Night for Angelina Terrazas” to celebrate her life and raise additional funds for the family.

Arturo Terrazas and Melody Bingham continue to receive support from a community that recognized their daughter’s incredible impact on everyone she touched.

Angelina’s parents lost their daughter far too soon, but they take solace in knowing that she lived her life with passion, touched countless hearts, and fought her battle with extraordinary courage.
