Bob Parkhill, a basketball coach and history teacher at Dickson School, passed away on August 13, 2025.
He was an inspiration to many, yet gave headaches to his students as he taught them to be productive citizens.

Bob Parkhill was a mentor who shaped young athletes both on and off the court.
He was renowned for his work as a basketball and track coach and pushed his students to excel, instilling discipline and perseverance.
Many of his former players adored him. His passion for athletics was undeniable, as he was not only a skilled coach but also a great athlete in his own right.
Beyond coaching, Bob served as a teacher and later as a principal. Even after his students graduated, he remained a guiding figure, offering wisdom and support whenever they needed it.
Furthermore, Bob was not without his critics. Some former athletes recall his tough coaching style, admitting they hated him as a coach but loved him as a principal.
Undoubtedly, his tragic passing saddened the whole community, and many remembered him in their heartfelt tribute.

Bob made learning memorable as a teacher.

He shared a close bond with his students. Susan Ledgerwood, one of his students, shared that she did a 360 in the middle of the road with him on his first day of driver’s education.
His tenure as a principal further solidified his reputation as a leader who genuinely cared.
He had a rare gift for staying connected with former students, following their journeys with pride, and offering encouragement along the way.
Just got word that an old friend and coach of mine in high school has passed away. Rest in Peace, Bob Parkill.

Furthermore, Bob’s resilience was as remarkable as his kindness. After surviving a horrific car accident alongside Tommy Chote, he emerged with a renewed determination to live purposefully.
Bob was a devoted family man and a cornerstone of the Dickson community. His warmth, humor, and unwavering commitment to others created a legacy that will endure for generations.
His spirit lives on in the countless lives he shaped, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared. His memory will forever be a beacon of passion, leadership, and joy.
