Nyla Holland, a 21-year-old sophomore at the University of Florida and a dedicated member of the UF Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), tragically passed away on March 2, 2025, in a moped-versus-car accident.
She was involved in a traffic collision while riding her moped on Hull Road near the Southwest Recreation Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Reportedly, the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a gray Mustang turning left collided with her westbound moped, ejecting her.
Her final ride, indeed, ended in tragedy. Holland had left for the gym at 7:15 p.m., and fifteen minutes later, her scooter hit a turning Mustang, which claimed her life.
Although cadet Holland was transported to a local hospital, she succumbed to the injuries at the hospital. She is survived by her parents and two siblings.
At the moment, intricate details about the accident are limited as the investigations are still on process.
Meanwhile, the Gainesville Police Department is investigating the incident and has urged any witnesses to come forward.

She was an outgoing and driven student, who was described as ‘soft-hearted and kind,’ and ‘always having the best smile.

Over 200 people, including family, friends, and ROTC members, attended a candlelight vigil in her honor on March 3, 2025.
Nyla Holland’s father bade goodbye to her with a heavy heart saying:
We will see Nyla again. She is in the arms of God, and there’s no better place.
Nyla had a fire, and that fire is not out. We live with that fire; we have that fire. She will be remembered. She will be in our heart always.
Thus far, details surrounding Holland’s funeral service is yet to be published.

Cadet Nyla Holland was a University of Florida sophomore majoring in animal sciences in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
She was a recipient of the prestigious U.S. Army ROTC scholarship and aspired to commission as a U.S. Army officer and serve her country upon graduation.

The UF Fightin’ Gator Battalion faced a profound loss this week with the passing of Cadet Nyla Holland, who was a sophomore majoring in animal sciences, and a recipient of the U.S. Army ROTC scholarship. Cadet Holland aspired to commission as a U.S Army officer and serve her country upon graduation. She was an outgoing and driven student, described as “soft-hearted and kind,” and “always having the best smile.
Nyla Holland was also a saxophone player. She was in the Park Vista Band for 4 years at Park Vista.

She played in the Wind Ensemble and was on the PV Track and Field team. Holland was a high achiever in anything she put her mind to, and always did it with a smile.
Nyla attended the University of Florida on an Army JROTC scholarship, hoping to join the Army after graduation.

Nyla was always a ray of sunshine in every room she was in. On this March 4th, National Band Day, we want to take a moment to celebrate the life of Nyla, who was a stellar person, musician, and friend to everyone.
