Utica University’s New Men’s and Women’s Golf Team New Head Coach, Jim Ironside And His Wife Gretchen Weiler Ironside, are Married For Almost A Decade

Ultica University has appointed Jim Ironside as both Men’s and Women’s Golf Head Coach for the 2025/26 Season. Jim, the New York resident, is married to Gretchen Weiler Ironside, who is originally from Camden.

Jim Ironside and Gretchen have been together for over a decade. The couple married in 2015, in November. The couple also has two children together, both boys. The siblings also have great love for their grandfather, Ed Weiler.

Jim is a proud graduate of Oneida High School, a Class of ’04’, and got his Professional Golf Management degree in 2008 from SUNY Delhi, a public college in Delhi, New York, United States.

He was also the SUNY Delhi Professional Golf Management Player of the Year in 2006.

The Ultrica’s new coach began his golfing journey by working at numerous Central New York Clubs, starting in 2009.

Jim Ironside Has Over 15 Years Of Coaching Experience

During that time, he started as an Assistant Golf Professional at the Teugega Country Club. A Year later, he worked in the same role, but for Kanon Valley Country Club, which was the start of his three-year tenure at the Club. He also earned a PGA Membership in the third year.

Later, he also secured three roles as a PGA Pro at Alburg Golf Links (2014-2016) and Sadaquada Golf Course (2017-2018).

A year later, he was also named the Director of the New York Intermin Tournament. In the same year, he was also awarded the PGA Professional Development Award (Horton Smith Award).

The New Yorker also became a PGA Senior Assistant Golf Professional, starting in 2020. In 2025, Utica College Golf hired him as a successor to Scott Gehringer.

Jim will be assisted by Tim Gates, who also worked with the former coach for a year.

The coaching duo’s reality will begin on September 15, 2025, at the SUNY Poly Invitational, where Jim will likely have fond memories due to his history with the institution.

The university will also participate in the Keuka College Fall Invitational, the Oswego Invitational, the Nazareth Invitational, and the Empire 8 Fall Invitational.
