Van Malone, the Kansas State coach who recently stirred headlines after hinting he might be let go, is married to Nedra Malone. Together, they have three sons and a family life that remains largely private.

Nedra Malone is a career educator and sports consultant who runs VM 5 Star Sports and works in counseling roles.

She holds a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M and a bachelor’s degree from Texas State.

The Malone sons are Van Jr., Vaughn, and Vincent. Vaughn is a Kansas State cornerback and college student.

Vaughn Malone wears No. 28, is listed at 6-0 and 187 pounds, and saw his first action in the 2021 Texas Bowl.

He redshirted in 2019, did not play in 2020, and earned high-school honors in football and track at St. Michael’s.

Van Jr. and Vincent, on the other hand, have decided to keep their profile low and are less active on Social media.

The Post Drew Immediate Attention

Buren Malone is a veteran coach and former NFL safety currently serving as assistant head coach, defensive passing game coordinator, and cornerbacks coach at Kansas State.

He played college football at the University of Texas and was selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft.

Malone went on to play five seasons in the NFL, including time with the Detroit Lions, before transitioning into coaching.

His coaching resume spans high school jobs and college programs at Western Michigan, North Texas, Texas A&M, Tulsa, and Oklahoma State.

Malone served as defensive coordinator at SMU from 2015 to 2017 before joining Mississippi State in a staff role.

He joined Kansas State’s staff in 2019 as a cornerbacks coach and was promoted in 2020 to assistant head coach.

Coaching peers credit him with developing multiple All-Conference cornerbacks and producing NFL prospects from his units.

Local reporting noted Malone earned recognition as a top positional coach and received award mentions for cornerbacks coaching.

His social-media post saying he had been fired drew attention during a program transition and was removed later that night.

The heightened attention on Van Malone came amid the sudden retirement of head coach Chris Klieman, which triggered a reshuffling of Kansas State’s coaching staff. The assistant coach wrote;

“7 great years at Kansas State, 7 years of All Conference players, Big XII Championship, Numerous 8-Win seasons. Phenomenal impact… coaches, players, staff, and in the community! I’ve learned to count my blessings even in uncertain times… I’m fired though, holler if you hear of something that fits. 7 great years at Kansas State, 7 years of All Conference players, Big XII Championship, Numerous 8-Win seasons. Though Malone’s post was deleted, it highlighted the uncertainty created by Klieman stepping down after seven seasons.
