A 16-year-old Washington Catholic School student and athlete, Cooper Schuckman, passed away in a tragic auto repair accident on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Cooper Schuckman took his last breath in a freak automotive incident that has left his family, friends, and community in grief.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the heartwrenching incident occurred at a residence located at 2094 W 300 N in Washington, Indiana.

At approximately 9:11 p.m., Daviess County Central Dispatch received a distressing call reporting that a male was pinned under a vehicle that had fallen off its jacks.

Deputies and first responders arrived to find Cooper trapped beneath a full-size Ford F-350 truck. A nearby forklift was used to lift the vehicle and free him, but despite the rapid response, Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Cooper and a friend were working on the truck, which was elevated using two air jacks on blocks and one floor jack.

While attempting to remove a part, the vehicle’s weight shifted, causing it to collapse onto Cooper.

The Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Daviess County Ambulance Service, and the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate but has classified the incident as a tragic accident.
