Jaelynn Connett, a bright and energetic 10-year-old softball star, is currently fighting for her life at Blank Children’s Hospital after being diagnosed with viral meningitis and brainstem encephalitis.

The illness, which causes severe swelling in the brain, has left Jaelynn weak and unable to engage in the active lifestyle she loves.

Jaelynn’s journey to treatment began when she experienced a persistent fever and increasing weakness that made it difficult for her to stand or walk.

After three trips to the emergency department, doctors admitted her to Blank Children’s Hospital, where she received the shocking diagnosis.

Initially placed on the pediatric floor, Jaelynn experienced seizure activity and persistent fever, prompting doctors to move her to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for closer monitoring.

Her family, Heidi and Devin Connett, have had to take time off work to stay by her side.

Friends and loved ones have rallied around the family, setting up donation sites to help ease the financial and emotional burden during this challenging time.

Jaelynn is such a sweet, outgoing kid who loves spending time with her family and friends and playing softball,” said Jacki Heck, Heidi Connett’s best friend, who organized a fundraising campaign to support the family.

Jaelynn’s condition remains serious. She was recently moved back to a regular room, but doctors continue to monitor her closely.

Plans are underway for additional testing, including a lumbar puncture, brain MRI, and spine MRI, as infectious disease specialists across the country consult on her unique case.

Her family and friends continue to pray for her recovery and hope that her strength and spirit will see her through.

Messages of support and encouragement have poured in from the community.

Maggie Damon shared,

“Everyone, this sweet, loving girl needs big prayers. She is battling viral meningitis and trying so hard. We can’t wait to see her smiling face again.”

Despite the challenges, Jaelynn’s family remains hopeful and appreciative of the support they have received.

They continue to ask for prayers and assistance as Jaelynn battles this life-threatening illness and begins the long road to recovery, which will include extensive rehabilitation once her body is strong enough.

Through it all, Jaelynn’s infectious personality, love for softball, and joyful spirit remain at the heart of the community’s efforts to support her.

Friends and family continue to encourage donations, share updates, and pray for her healing, hoping to see her back to her bright, funny, and active self soon.
