Ansley “Payce” Chappell was a seventh-grade student at Dacusville Middle School in Greenville County.
She was an active participant in volleyball and was a part of the 12-U championship team.
On April 15, 2025, Payce Chappell was selected by Palmetto Region Volleyball as one of the All-Region players for the 2024–2025 season.
Tragically, she passed away from bacterial meningitis caused by Group B strep, a rare condition in young people.
While the exact date of her diagnosis hasn’t been publicly shared, it is known that Payce Chappell was hospitalized toward the end of June with life-threatening complications from bacterial meningitis.
On June 30, her mother’s closest friend asked for prayers, sharing that Chappell had been hospitalized.
She further added that Chappell was on a ventilator and fighting for her life, saying:
Please take the time to stop now & say a prayer for Payce. Her mom has asked that we pray specifically for her swelling to go down and the doctors to see brain activity in testing. Payce Chappell has been hospitalized with life threatening complications from meningitis and is now fighting for her life on a ventilator at this moment. We are begging everyone to flood the gates of Heaven and call out her name for GOD to touch her and heal her right now. GOD says that faith is believing without seeing and knowing that GOD WILL and not that HE can.
Her health rapidly declined due to severe complications, including brain swelling, and she was placed on a ventilator in the final days of her life.
Sadly, she didn’t survive and passed away on July 1, 2025, surrounded by prayers and love from her family and community.
Following her passing, the school and community have been grieving deeply.
Friends, family, and neighbors came together in prayer and support after a plea was shared asking for healing.
Dacusville Middle School paid heartfelt tribute to Chapel, saying:
Payce was a kind, bright, and determined young lady whose positive spirit and warm smile left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, She represented the very best of our Dacusville community, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Moreover, on July 3 at 4 p.m., the school will host a memorial gathering to commemorate her life in the school’s media center.
