Late Rick Hummel, nicknamed “The Commish,” was an American author and sports columnist. Unfortunately, he died at home on May 20, 2023, due to a brief illness.

In 1971, Rick was hired at the Post-Dispatch and chronicled three Cardinals’ World Series championships, seven National League pennants, and six MVP seasons.

Rick made a name for himself through his work for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch throughout his sports career.

In 2006, his name was in the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Career Excellence Award.

In his speech for the award, Rick quoted, “more than just a dream come true because I never could have dreamt this.”

Also, the National Baseball Hall of Fame inducted Rick the very next year.

Rick Hummel Survived By His Wife And Three Kids

Late Rick Hummel had a wife, Melissa, from his third marriage and had three kids from his previous marriages.

Apart from his son, Scott Hummel, and daughters Christy and Lauren, Rick has a step-daughter Camilla Grone, including five grandchildren.

Rick was always thankful to his wife Mellissa and his children for encouraging him to keep working as long as he wanted to.

The best writer in the history of the Post-Dispatch died in 2023 due to a revealed illness.

Rick Hummel’s indelible legacy is survived by his family and the families of his previous marriages.

Hall of Fame baseball writer sadly died on May 20, 2023, at the age of 77 on Saturday morning.

Hummel covered the St. Louis Cardinals and MLB for five decades for the Post-Dispatch until his retirement in 2022.

Adam Wainwright tweeted, “St Louis lost a legend in Rick Hummel.”

He continued describing Rick as someone always in a good mood, wearing some goofy hat and mismatched pants that used to make him smile.

Hummel has given the proper tribute for his celebrated career as the Cincinnati Reds held a moment of silence.

Serving as a heartfelt tribute, a rose was also placed at a seat in the press box, honoring the memory of Rick Hummel.
