He founded the Alex Highsmith Family Foundation, which is based in his hometown, Wilmington.

The foundation’s primary focus is fostering the well-being of youths through fitness, nutrition, and athletic, academic, and providing social and emotional support throughout Wilmington, Pittsburgh, and Charlotte.
Furthermore, this month in July 2023, the foundation organized and helped fund the Third AHFF Youth Football Camp.
In addition to this, Highsmith also spoke out against gun violence after his high school friend and gym & basketball partner, Caryl Baron, was shot and killed.
The incident happened when she walked to a party in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Halloween night in 2020.
Following this tragic incident, Highsmith wrote Carly’s name on his cleats as a tribute the following week.
