Shaun White Parents: Who Are Roger And Cathy White?

American former snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White hails from San Diego, California. There, he was born to his parents, Cathy and Roger.

Shaun comes from a family of three siblings, and he is the youngest among them.

His mother, Cathy, earned a living as a waitress, while his father, who had a background in surfing, held a position at the water department in San Clemente, California.

Shaun’s older brother, Jesse White, who is seven years older than him, played a key role in his life by teaching him the art of Snowboarding.

Inspired by his older brother Jesse White’s path, Shaun White switched from skiing to Snowboarding when he was just six years old.

By the time he turned seven, he had already secured his first sponsorship. 

Throughout his career, White competed in five Winter Olympics and achieved remarkable success in the snowboard halfpipe event, winning three Olympic gold medals in 2006, 2010, and 2018.

He holds the world record for the most X Games gold medals and the most Olympic gold medals among snowboarders, which has earned him a well-deserved reputation.

Additionally, he has claimed 10 ESPY Awards in various categories, a testament to his skill and dedication.

Shaun White was born on September 3, 1986, in San Diego, California, to his parents, Roger and Cathy White. White grew up with his two older siblings, Jesse and Kari, who played snowboarding when they were kids.

White parents didn’t approve of Snowboarding as a career for Shan at first, but now they have become Shaun’s greatest supporters.

White’s dad, Roger, used to work for the San Clemente water department, according to The New York Times.

He grew up in Coronado, near San Diego, and loved surfing at places like Imperial Beach and Del Mar.

After graduating from Coronado High School and going to Monterey Peninsula College, he spent much time surfing in Santa Cruz, California.

Roger had hoped Shaun would also be a surfer, but Shaun chose his own way and ended up building a successful career doing what he loved.

White’s Mother Cathy, Was Against Snowboarding 

Following his brother’s footsteps, Shaun began skiing and Snowboarding when he was very small.

However, his mother Cathy didn’t like the Sports as she was worried that Shaun could become seriously injured.

Moreover, Shaun was born with a congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot, which meant he needed to undergo two open-heart surgeries before turning one year old.

Because of his health issues, Cathy was concerned about his choice to pursue snowboarding as a career.

However, with time, she came to terms with his passion and supported his journey.

Nowadays, she’s his biggest cheerleader, always there to root for him and provide her unwavering support.

His Brother Jesse Is His First Person To Teach Him Skateboard

Shaun White’s brother, Jesse White, was the one who introduced Shaun to skateboarding.

Inspired by his older brother, Shaun followed a similar path and became an incredibly skilled snowboarder.

Even though Jesse played Snowboard when he was young, he nowadays holds the role of creative director at Whitespace by Shaun White.

The talented young man is now married and the father of two sons. He tied the knot with Dominique Alexandra White on October 13, 2018.
