Former NBA champion Michael Jordan was greatly influenced by his mother, Deloris Jordan, who shaped his character both on and off the court.

From an early age, Michael’s mother supported her son in fulfilling his basketball dream and continued to support him throughout his journey.

However, Deloris endured the heartbreaking loss of her husband and Michael’s father, James, in July 1993.

Despite the grief of losing her partner, she remained strong, supporting Michael through his mourning and ensuring her family stayed united during that difficult time.

Deloris made sure her children never felt her husband’s absence and dedicated herself to her family.

Deloris Jordan instilled good values in him from an early age and even talked openly about her parenting in public.

According to the New York Post, Michael could not only play basketball like a star but also do house chores nicely.

His mother taught him these basic life skills early on, and she has also written about them in her parenting book, Family First: Winning the Parenting Game.

At the beginning of Michael’s basketball career, his mother did everything to support her son, and she even said:

I never regretted the effort our family made to be there for Michael his rookie season.

Michael also shared that his parents convinced him to sign with Nike. Later, in 2021, he honored his mother’s role in his success with the Dear Deloris shoe, which is part of the Jordan series.

Jordan also did a special feature episode with his mother in the 1988 Superstars & Their Moms.

In addition to being a devoted mother, Deloris was also a humanitarian and a successful professional in her own right.

She co-founded The Michael Jordan Foundation in 1989, providing academic opportunities and help to underprivileged youth.

Further, she also founded the James R. Jordan Foundation in honor of her late husband to provide support for low-income children.

Additionally, the star’s mother founded the Kenya Women and Children’s Wellness Centre while working in healthcare services in Nairobi, Kenya.

Further, Deloris is also a bestselling author, who has penned many children’s books, such as the Salt in His Shoes and Michael’s Golden Rules.

Nonetheless, Michael Jordan was guided to greatness by his beloved mother, who held her family together and supported her children.
